About Allison Brates

Licensed Massage Therapist in New York and Connecticut

Allison BratesI am a Massage Therapist licensed in New York and Connecticut. I use a variety of bodywork modalities in working with people who experience acute or chronic health conditions, including:

cancer and the effects of cancer treatment, including lymphedema.

post surgical pain and swelling

orthopedic injuries

scar healing

chronic sinusitis and headaches

support during stroke recovery

My approach includes elements of  classical Swedish Massage, use of pressure or trigger points, deep tissue massage, myofascial release techniques, energy work and manual lymphatic drainage techniques.

Many medical conditions are characterized by swelling (edema) and pain. Manual lymphatic drainage is a gentle, non invasive approach that effectively reduces swelling and relieves pain.

Dr. Vodder Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) and Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) are used together to manage lymphedema, the swelling of a limb or body part that results  from damage to the lymphatic system (secondary lymphedema) or from a congenital insufficiency of the lymphatic system (primary lymphedema).

I became certified in MLD and CDT through the Dr. Vodder School to have the necessary skills to treat my clients safely and effectively.
